Welcome to Regina Caeli Parish - Karen
Regina Caeli Catholic Church is a prominent parish located in the Karen suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. The church is renowned for its unique architectural design, resembling a crown—a symbol of Mary, the Queen of Heaven, after whom the church is named.
Construction of the church commenced in 2016 and concluded in late 2022, following a six-year journey marked by dedication and community effort. The dedication ceremony was officiated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, Hubertus van Megen, and was attended by several senior Catholic leaders, including Cardinal John Njue and Archbishop Philip Anyolo.
The church’s design is both innovative and symbolic. It features a towering circular structure with long arcs supporting the concrete walls, eliminating the need for internal pillars. The interior houses 12 pillars, each bearing the name of Jesus’ disciples, representing the foundational strength of the church. The main entrance is adorned with wood from the Mvuli tree, imported from Congo, and showcases carvings of Mary.
Beyond its architectural splendor, Regina Caeli Catholic Church offers various facilities to serve its congregation. These include an adoration chapel, a mother’s room accommodating up to 25 mothers, a sacristy, four confession rooms, and a hall in the basement.
